A beloved Mexican restaurant in Maryland, Tia Queta, has closed its doors after 45 years of serving the community. The restaurant, located in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle, held its final day of service on January 31, 2026. Tia Queta has been a staple in the area since the 1980s, known for its welcoming atmosphere and traditional Mexican cuisine. It has been a gathering place for generations of diners, from family celebrations to casual meals and longtime regulars. The owner, Roberto Montesinos, shared the news in a heartfelt message to customers, expressing gratitude for the community's support and memories over the decades. Montesinos' journey began after graduating from American University, working at several local restaurants before opening his own spot in Bethesda. A pivotal moment in the early 1990s secured the restaurant's long-term future when the building's landlord, who was ill, offered to sell the property to the couple. The building was sold to new owner Nimi Chhina LLC, based in Dover, Delaware, for $2.1 million. This closure marks the end of an era for the restaurant and its loyal customers, leaving a void in the community that will be difficult to fill.
