Cellist Aleks Tengesdal is currently earning a Master’s Degree in cello performance at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, studying with Dr. Betsy Husby. His focus is learning 20th century cello repertoire and contemporary music. Recently Aleks received over 200 scores for cello from the new music website Vox Novus and shall be premiering certain works written for him at the Duluth Underground Theatre in November. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in cello performance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with Dr. Andrew Smith in 2008. Following that he studied early music cello at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Periodically he has also studied and performed with teacher Dr. Erik Anderson who teaches at Minot State University in North Dakota. Aleks recently performed the Rautavaara cello concerto with the University of Minnesota - Duluth Symphony Orchestra under Rudy Perrault’s baton, and shall be giving a performance of the Dvorak cello concerto with Keith Swanson and the Itasca Symphony Orchestra in February. In the summer Aleks performs with the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra and is in repertoire planning with director Warren Freisen for a solo cello work to be played next season. Active in the Duluth area, Aleks holds a Teaching Assistantship at UMD- Duluth, privately teaches, performs with the Sound of Strings/Four String Rock quartet, is an active recitalist, works on piano/cello repertoire and improvises with his wife Angela, and performs with area orchestras such as the Duluth Superior Symphony and the Itasca Symphony Orchestra. As a composer Aleks is focused on creating new music for the cello and is seeking to premiere a large cello work on his Master’s Degree recital.

Angela Tengesdal has a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Minnesota Duluth. She is an active member of Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA), and in the past has served as Vice President of MMTA's local branch: Arrowhead Music Teachers Association (AMTA) and Program Director for MMTA’s Music Bridges program, a program integrating music with other fine arts and catering to each student’s individual creativity. Angela has taught at the Fine Arts Academy since 2007, and composes and performs for various local events. She enjoys teaching in the traditional classical style as well as implementing composing and improvisation into her teaching.
